About Shift in Midlife - Our Story and Mission

Empowering
Midlife Journeys

My Why

Shift in Midlife was founded because I

enjoy supporting women through some of life’s biggest transitions —from changes in health and energy to career shifts and rediscovering purpose in midlife and beyond.

So many women reach a point where they feel ready for something more —but aren’t sure how to move forward with clarity or confidence and get stuck.

I help people through providing the tools, frameworks, and support navigating their midlife with intention—so you can shift into your next chapter with purpose and truly thrive.

My Story

My life has been shaped by constant shifts.

I was born in Japan, yet my earliest childhood memories are from the United States. Then, at the age of eight, my world abruptly changed when my family moved back to Japan — a country that was supposed to feel like home, but one I barely knew. Just as I began adapting, another shift came at fourteen, when I suddenly returned to the U.S. Two years later, at sixteen, I was back in Japan once again.

Those repeated transitions shaped far more than my childhood; they shaped my identity. I grew up navigating different cultures, languages, and expectations, constantly adapting yet never feeling fully rooted in one place for long. Change became my norm.

For years, I believed Japan would be where I would spend the rest of my life — where I would build my career, my future, and my sense of belonging. But life had other plans. The pattern of movement and reinvention continued, eventually carrying me far beyond anything I could have imagined.

I spent years as a strategic advisor to global CEOs, working across Japan, the UK, Italy, and the United States. My role was to help leaders navigate complexity — high-stakes decisions, organizational transformation, and rapidly evolving technology markets. I became highly skilled at solving other people’s problems. Solving my own was a different story.

After leaving corporate life, my husband and I made another dramatic shift, moving from Silicon Valley to Lake Tahoe. There, I reinvented myself again — this time as an entrepreneur running an online reseller business. Through the technology products I sold, I helped engineers digitize physical objects, collaborated on projects with major companies, and stayed close to the leading edge of innovation. It was creative, independent, and deeply fulfilling.

Outside of work, I immersed myself in a different kind of learning. I volunteered at the Lake Tahoe Science Center and became fascinated by the ecology of the lake and the surrounding environment. We joined a golf club, I learned to play golf, built new friendships, and expanded our social world. From the outside, life looked active, successful, and full.

But beneath it all, another shift was quietly happening.

At 55, I took a body scan, and discovered that I had been steadily losing muscle mass compared to just three years earlier — despite hiking mountain trails daily with my dogs in every season, golfing, and skiing regularly. Something deeper was changing.

My energy began to fade. I stopped waking up refreshed. And despite living what appeared to be a healthy, vibrant life in Lake Tahoe, I felt stuck. I found myself endlessly consuming health advice on social media, reading books about purpose and reinvention, intellectually understanding exactly what I should do — yet struggling to truly change my own habits and patterns.

Sound familiar?

Then came the biggest shift of all.

My husband and I traded our 4,000-square-foot home, country club lifestyle, and familiar routines for a 300-square-foot motorhome and life on the open road with our two Goldendoodles. That radical downsizing stripped life down to its essentials. It forced me to confront my health, my identity, and the question I could no longer ignore: What did I truly want this next chapter of my life to be about?

What I discovered on the other side was something I hadn’t felt in years: energy, clarity, resilience, and possibility.

Today, the work I do is not built solely on my training at the Health Coach Institute. It is built on a lifetime of reinvention, adaptation, and lived experience across cultures, careers, and personal transformations.

I now help women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s who are intelligent, high-functioning, and deeply informed — women who know they want change, but feel overwhelmed by conflicting advice, stuck in old patterns, or disconnected from themselves.

I don’t believe in generic wellness plans, rigid routines, or one-size-fits-all solutions. Every woman’s body, mind, and life experience is different — and I believe your approach to health should feel supportive, tailored, and sustainable, not stressful.

My coaching is grounded in a calm, chill, stress-free approach. No pressure, no extremes, and no expectation of perfection. I help women slow down, tune into what’s really happening in their bodies and minds, and cut through the overwhelming noise and conflicting advice.

Your next chapter doesn’t begin someday. It begins the moment you decide to shift. Let’s do it together.
